Vampires have stirred our imaginations for centuries. Since the time of the original Dracula, "Vlad the Impaler" (1430 to 1476), the possibility that there are higher human creatures that sustain themselves on the blood and life energy of others has intrigued and scared us all. And it's this awe-inspiring fear that makes the vampire (male) and vampiress (female) costume one of the most popular costumes ever.

Basic vampire (male) clothing consists of:

- a cape
- black suit jacket
- black pants
- tuxedo style white shirt, with or without ruffles
- cummerbund or vest
- dark, slicked back hair style, preferably with a forehead "widows peak"
- dark shoes

The basic vampiress (female) clothing consists of:

- black or very dark grey gown
- small shiny tiara or blood theme earrings
- black choker, preferably made of velvet
- black or velvet wrist bands
- black or fishnet stockings
- long black hair
- black shoes or sandals

And of course, proper dental wear

Vampires are known to live an eternity, never age, some having the power of flight, and heightened senses that allow them superhuman strength, exceptional hearing and perfect eyesight. Some may even be able to change their form! Vampires must beware of garlic cloves, sunlight, anything silver and those carrying wooden stakes and crosses. Also known as "Homonus Nocturna", vampires can be killed by sprinkling holy water on them and you can easily see who is the vampire by looking for a reflection in the mirror, the vampire doesn't reflect an image!
